Slovenia overtakes France as 'Hot Spot' for Cyclists

Slovenia overtakes France as 'hot spot' for cyclistsFriday, 20
July 2012 10:41 AM Travelbrite.uk.com

More Brits are going on cycle holidays than ever before

France is not longer the top destination for cycle holidays - now
25 per cent more people choose to visit Slovenia instead.

According to new figures from Wheel2Wheel Holidays, more cyclists
are visiting Slovenia for an active holiday than ever before -
making it of their top performing destinations of the year so
far.

Steven Rittey, of Wheel2Wheel, commented: "Slovenia is Europe's
newest active outdoor playground and offers great value for money
as a holiday destination. There are few destinations which allow
you to explore the whole of a country in just over a week. In
Slovenia it's easy to see everything in a short space of time
from the countryside to the coast.

"At the moment we are currently seeing more bookings for Slovenia
than the traditional destinations such as France, Italy and
Spain. Easy access to the capital Ljubljana and its central
European location make Slovenia convenient to visit and remains
one of the better value euro countries."

On the whole, cycling holidays have been getting more popular
with the British public: almost half of UK households now own a
bike and more people than ever are using bikes as a means to get
around.

Where to stay when you come to Slovenia to play?

Newly renovated luxury 2 bedroom cottage located just outside
Bled - tourist hot spot in Slovenia. The spacious living area
includes a large open plan living room with flat screen TV, wood
burning stove, dining room and modern fully equip kitchen.
Nestled in a small valley, the cottage is surrounded on all sides
by picturesque mountain views. There is nowhere is better to
enjoy the views than on the sunny furnished deck or BBQ area
under the shade of our grape vines and various fruit trees.

Bled is minutes away by car of train and is packed with great
restaurants, bars, nightclubs, casinos, family friendly
activities, as well as a beach, and a breathtakingly stunning
lake, island and castle.

The house is walking distance to a great pub/restaurant and train
station excellent for day trips exploring Slovenia.

It is also walking distance from some of the best fly fishing in
the world, a short drive from 3 major ski areas, a golf course
and some of the best wineries in Europe.

July 10, 2012

ByFirst Tracks!! Online Media

Ludlow, VT -The Butties are returning to Okemo Mountain Resort
for a free concert this Friday as part of the Vermont ski and

singing with the Butties, the famous, yet down-to-earth Sam Lloyd
is an actor on stage and screen, best known for playing Ted, the
hapless, sweaty lawyer on the hit television sitcom Scrubs.

Hemisphere on June 20, 2012, at 7:09 P.M. (EDT).

According to the Farmer's Almanac, each year the timing of the
solstice depends on when the sun reaches its farthest point north
of the equator. This occurs annually on June 20 or June 21 in
North America, depending on your time zone. The word solstice is
from the Latin solstitium, from sol (sun) and stitium (to stop),
reflecting the fact that the sun appears to stop at this time. In
our region, we notice that the sun is higher in the sky
throughout the day, and its rays strike Earth at a more direct
angle, causing the efficient warming we call summer. In the
winter, just the opposite occurs: the sun is directly overhead at
its most northern point at "high-noon" on the summer solstice,
creating more sunlight in the Northern Hemisphere on this day
then any other. So what are you going to do on the longest day of
the year?

CampGokemohas opened up at Okemo and anyone who visits the
Jackson Gore area Monday thru Saturday will see lots going on at
camp. Plenty of activities happen during the day ranging from
swimming, to hikes, team sports to rock climbing. There are also
visits to Plymouth State Park on some days and field trips to
area attractions.

In speaking with the"golf guys", things are going well at both
Okemo Valley Golf Course and Tater Hill Golf Club. The greens are
in great shape, the grass is growing quickly and the irrigation
systems are going full swing during this hot weather. Did you
know some of those guys begin mowing greens at 5 am? It is a lot
like the winter operations guys, except it is much warmer!
Rodney, who is the course superintendent at Okemo Valley and Eric
at Tater Hill work hard to keep their courses looking good and it
shows.

The biggest question I am getting asked..."how is the zip line
coming?" Well, things are looking good. The name is Sawyer's
Sweep Zip line, and the lower two sections are complete. Work is
progressing nicely on the upper sections. We are anticipating an
early July opening and guests can begin inquiring about
reservations atOkemo.com. We will have a more firm opening date
to share soon.

TheAdventure Zone begins 7-day a week operationbeginning on
Friday June 29th, so be sure to check it out!

Enjoy the sun and have some fun... Okemo, not just for Winter
anymore!!

Event: 7 Day Independence Day Celebration at Okemo Resort - Jul 4-11

Okemo Mountain Resort is going all out this Independence Day with
seven days of celebration, adventure, and fun for the whole
family! Check out the following announcement for the schedule of
events:

On Sunday, July 1, Wunderle's Big Top Adventure Circus is rolling
into town. The one-hour performance from three of the world's top
circus performers starts at 4 p.m. in the Jackson Gore Ice House.
The show features aerial acts with trapeze and fabric elements,
partner acrobatics, and comedy. Wunderle's Circus performers'
credentials include Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey,
Circus Smirkus and Cirque du Soleil. Circus fans may purchase
tickets online in advance for $12 for ages 13 and up, and $9 for
children 12 and under. Purchased at the door, tickets will be
priced at $15 and $12 respectively. Admission for children under
3 is free.

The Jackson Gore Outdoor Music Series continues Friday evening,
July 6, with a performance by Erin Harpe & the Delta
Swingers. Erin has been hailed "an authentic blues chanteuse,"
earning a reputation for her raw style and accomplished
finger-picking guitar playing. Erin and her gang combine delta
soul with Boston's rich blues heritage. Admission to the concert
is free and guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or picnic
blankets. Concerts are held in Okemo's Jackson Gore Inn courtyard
every Friday evening throughout the summer. The music starts at 6
p.m. and dining options include an outdoor barbecue or
full-service al fresco dining at Coleman Brook Tavern.

On Saturday, July 7, Okemo wishes the U.S.A. a happy birthday
with its annual Red, White & Blues Festival. This
all-American concert features popular blues artists Lydia Warren
and the Dave Keller Band. Lydia Warren tours internationally from
Brooklyn to Beirut, whipping audiences into a frenzy at each
stop. A versatile singer, songwriter, guitarist and producer, the
Boston-based performer tours and records as a solo act and with
her band. The Lydia Warren Band has been nominated for a Boston
Music Award, appeared on NBC's Today Show and has released five
albums. Based in Montpelier, Vt., The Dave Keller Band's
reputation for dynamic, soul-stirring performances extends
throughout New England. Dave Keller is a singer/guitarist who has
forged a style uniquely his own - intense and soulful, gritty and
sweet. Like the best blues and soul men before him, Keller
learned his art firsthand from the blues masters. Admission to
Okemo's Red, White and Blues Festival is free and music fills the
air starting at noon. The lawn in the courtyard at Okemo's
Jackson Gore Inn becomes an outdoor concert venue for the special
occasion. Families are welcome, and all attendees are encouraged
to bring lawn chairs or picnic blankets. Okemo's culinary staff
will be serving frosty-cold beverages and fresh-from-the-grill
burgers, hot dogs, pulled pork sandwiches and more. Concert-goers
can also opt for full-service dining with al fresco seating at
Jackson Gore's Coleman Brook Tavern.

The Jackson Gore courtyard offers plenty of room to kick off
those shoes and dance on the lawn, or to toss a ball or a Frisbee
back and forth. Okemo's Adventure Zone will be open with plenty
of heart-pounding activities including the Timber Ripper Mountain
Coaster, a roller-coaster-like ride where riders control the
speed. There's trampoline bungee jumping, miniature golf, disc
golf, a climbing pinnacle, a slackline, the Amp Energy Big Air
Bag, a giant inflatable pillow like Hollywood stuntmen use. Okemo
is also slated to open its new zipline tour on Julky 7. This
high-flying, two-hour, guided treetop tour books early, so
reservations are recommended. Okemo's Adventure Zone is open
daily in July and August.

High-Flying Treetop Adventure Tour at Okemo!

Sawyer's Sweep Zipline TourOkemo Mountain Resort's Adventure Zone
is a vacation destination that is on the rise... literally. A new
zipline canopy tour enhances the many adventurous offerings at
Okemo and takes guests to new heights this summer. The new
high-flying treetop tour located on the mountain behind the
Jackson Gore Inn features six zipline segments that rise 40 to 50
feet above the ground, allowing thrill-seekers to soar among
aeries previously inhabited only by indigenous birds and
ambitious squirrels.

Each zipline canopy tour is about two hours long. Groups of up to
eight people, accompanied by two expert guides, start with 30
minutes of Ground School. Each guest is fitted with a harness and
then becomes acquainted with safety procedures and techniques for
riding the ziplines. Following Ground School, groups are
transported by van up the mountain to the first of six ziplines
that are connected by treetop platforms. The longest of the lines
is 900 feet, and riders can soar at speeds up to 30 mph as they
descend nearly 300 vertical feet from start to finish. In
addition to ensuring safety, guides provide interesting insight
along the way. They point out impressive views and share their
knowledge of the environment and local lore and legends.

The Sawyer's Sweep Zipline Tour operates year round with a
different experience in every season; guests are sure to return
in autumn for a brilliant foliage flight, or in winter for a
wonderland in white. Reservations are highly recommended for
morning and afternoon departures. Zipline riders must be at least
10 years old and weigh less than 250 pounds.

Here Comes the Snow at Okemo!

Here comes the snow!4-5 inches blanketed the mountain last
nightand yes, there is more on it's way! Flurries have been
continuing throughout the morning. What are you waiting for!?
Warm up the car, grab your gear, and head on over! We are
expecting a beautiful day here on the mountain withmostly
sunny skies and temps in the 15-20 degrees with powder/packed
powder conditions. Currently the base temp is at 20 degrees
and the summit at 9 degrees. So, start your weekend off right
with some fun at Okemo Mountain Resort. Hope to see you all
out on the slopes! Snowguns were firing away last night,
working their magic on Hot Dog Hill, Lower Mountain Road,
Fairway, Open Slope, Nor'easter, Boomerang, Easy Street, Home
Stretch, Village Run, and Black Out. For new terrain,Upper
Wild Thing is opening today! This technical trail has a
double fall line and some steep pitches. Suggestions for this
trail have been to take a left midway down and head into the
trees toward Moment's Rest for some untracked powder.

My property (http://www.vrbo.com/382300)is in the Winterplace
Condo development at the top of the South Ridge Quad A from
the base. This is a great location as you don't need to ski
to the base in the morning. You can walk out your door to the
slopes and ski directly to the Sachem Quad, Glades Peak Quad,
Black Ridge Triple or the Pull (the snowboard park area). We
are pretty much as high up on the mountain as you can stay.

We are about a 75 foot walk to the slopes from your door and
a short walk to the recreation center with the pool and hot
tubs.
